The 1935 pictorials were a landmark NZ stamp issue. Only the second pictorial series in NZ history. the designs were selected from a stamp design competition that received over 1500 entries with a prize of 25 pounds for each design that was accepted. The designer of the 3 pence stamp depicted a young Maori girl.
