Kathryn Furniss, a self-taught painter from Nelson, New Zealand, draws inspiration from the natural world. Her acrylic and ink works feature layered techniques, blending abstract washes with detailed strokes. "I use birds to tell stories or portray feelings, the shadow birds connecting the past with the present, being a spirit, past loved one or guardian of the other."
